Do Video games make Kids violent ??

I wanted to bring up this subject due to a comment my Nephew made last night.. I was minding my own business last night making dinner on the stove when my Sister and Nephew popped over to my house. Me and my Sis were somehow on the subject of colors and my Nephew blurts out I love the color Red !! I said what is it you like about the color Red ?? He goes on to say Blood is Red and I love the way Blood looks .. I was immediately alarmed and said what !!! He said I don't know , I just like the way it looks ? Just to give you a clue on my Nephews status , he is 12 and plays video games from the time he gets home from school to the time he goes to bed with a 5 min breather for dinner.. So this leads me to my original question , can Video games disturb the mind ?? Another thing , I believe that my Sister should be blamed for some of this because she allows it to happen.. What are your thoughts ??Do Video games make Kids violent ??
No, video games don't make kids violent. I actually did a 5 page essay on this in College. :PDo Video games make Kids violent ??
Video games can increase violent thoughts, but as for actual violence there's no hard proof of it. Then again, it usually depends on the person.
it may desensitize them to violence, but i dont think it can make them violent. how you and your sister act would have a larger effect on him that seeing something in a video game...but also in saying that, he is 12, what violent games does he play?

His Mom responds with I didn't even know he had the game  As far as me , I don't believe I should play a role in how he acts .. Maybe a small one , but I am not involved in his everyday life like his Mother is.. All I can do is make a suggestion here and there..

I'd have to say I've been slightly desensitized to violence, meaning that it doesn't bother me that much in games and movies. all though fotoage of war, dead people lying in the street is still disturbing to me.
No, video games don't make kids violent. I actually did a 5 page essay on this in College. :P
YES it has been proved that Violent Video Games do make kids 60% more aggressive in a more harmful matter, BUT it also has been proved that kids or people in general that play video games over 4 hours a week have a 35% increase in attention to detail. So it's almost a wash .....PARENTS NEED TO CHOOSE WHAT GAME THERE CHILDREN PLAY NOT THE GOVERNMENT so choose wisely, and no 10 year olds playing CoD and GTA games isn't a wise choice.
The age rating on games is there for a reason. But when the parents don't care why should you?
No it doesn't make kids more violent. The kids you see on the news, that just got done playing a game of COD, then go and shoot their mom, or something crazy like that, would have done it anyways. These kids are mentally disturbed, and are naturally inclined toward violence. ''Video games make kids more violent'' is just another half-a $$ed reason people use, just like all the ''guns kill people'' nuts out there.

... wow, a 5 page essay... in college? I would kill (because I play video games, right? :P) to have a 5 page paper instead of these 20+ ones.

On subject: Violent kids make kids violent, not video games. People were violent before video games. It may exacerbate it, but people who are triggered by violence in video games most likely would have been violent without the video games too.
I've been playing extremely violent games since the age of 4. I am 20 now and I have not committed a single crime nor have I ever thought about it. O_o I think lack of morals is the reason. LOL@kids blaming GTA/Doom/etc etc when they go on crime sprees just so they can be sent to a mental institution rather than jail. ROFL @ people for believing the crock of crap thatkids will come up with to save themselves.
well videogames have ratings on them and mature games show blood and u have to be 17 to buy them. Also i have been playing video games for as long as i can rmbr and im one of the nicest ppl in the world.
Video games make the people in my town very violent. Everybody is always running around shooting guns, throwing grenades, dismembering people's limbs and running people over with tanks. It's mass chaos!
I would say that the reason he loves the colour red is because he loves winning. I'd say he's just competitive and nothing else. Which is a good thing!
I guess it depends on the person. I don't take video games seriously one bit and I laugh at them all so it doesn't really make me more violent

It was a nice and short essay :). I've never had to write a 20+ page one and couldn't imagine :| Also, I'm thinking there is a difference between ''College'' in Canada and the States.
no, video games do not make kids violent, ive been playing mature rated games since i was 10. the thing that makes kids violent is bad parenting.
Only kids like this who clearly can't handle them. But most kids are fine, I started to play M games at a young age.
Allow me to answer that question by posing my own.
Do books, radio shows or movies make kids violent?
