Xbox only up to 720p??

I got a 360 when it first came out. I don't have one with an HDMI port. My TV supports up too 1080p, but my 360 won't go past 720p. My PS3 displays in 1080p, but not my Xbox!! Is it because I'm using component cables??Xbox only up to 720p??
Yup. 1080p is only possible through hdmi. Component can handle 1080i.Xbox only up to 720p??
Yup. 1080p is only possible through hdmi. It will display up to 1080p using the VGA cable - not included with the 360, bought seperately. Your TV must have a VGA port (some TV's call it a PC port). I did a lot of research on this as I have an original 360 w/o the HDMI port. Most TV's with a VGA port do NOT display at full 1080p using the VGA port. You will have to check your TV's spec sheet. The Samsungs are one of the only HDTVs I found that properly accept and display a 1080p feed using the VGA port. None of the Panasonics do - at least the ones I looked at in 2008, when I bought my Samsung. Great 1080p picture from the 360 using the VGA cable. Hope that helps!
Well even the Xbox dashboard won't go to 1080p through component cables. How do I get the update for my Xbox? I never had Xbox live, and I won't get it unless someone else pays for me :D (Birthday soon *COUGH COUGH*)

VGA cable? Never thought of that :O

My TV does have a VGA port...two actually :D (I have a DLP Mitsubishi HDTV)
You will need the update from XBL for your 360 to display 1080p using the VGA cables - is it connected to the Internet, 'cuz you only need a Silver XBL account to download the updates. I don't remember when the update came out but it was around the time the PS3 started shipping - the update was a response to the 360 only displaying 1080i at the time...
i dont know but i think the hdmi cable makes it so u can use ur speakers as well as go up to 1080p
Yup. 1080p is only possible through hdmi. Component can handle 1080i.
Component allows 1080p, I do it all the time, though HDMI isn't bad either.
Choose the option to join xbox live, select a silver membership (which is free) and once you're done registering make sure you're connected to the internet. Download the update and you can do 1080p.

''High-definition gaming output of 720p, 1080i or 1080p''

Not sure where the confusion is.

Im pretty sure that the first Xbox 360 's that came out only supported 720p and that the newer models support up to 1080p.

The VGA cable did not run at 1920x1080, but that was fixed with a patch like 2 years ago.

If you've never connected your Xbox to the internet you should get a free month of Xbox Live Gold when you connect it too. But yeah... all updates are free. Also, if you look around online you can fine Xbox Live Gold 12+1 month cards for around $39.99. I just renewed mine and got it for that shipped.
xbox live is free (silver)but if you wanna play online like multiplayer than you gotta pay.(Gold)

Xbox, supports 1080i and 480p standard.

Xbox360 supports 1080p and 720p standard.

Standard means all rendering is at least 720p. 1080p is optional. Just like you can play few native 1080i games on Xbox, you can play few games with native 1080p on Xbox360.

yup, i think the confusion is not all TVs support 1080p through component. i know most samsungs do, but other than that you just have to do some research
